Independent novel study
Students have been given over 8 classes to work on their book projects. A choice was given to do a poster or brochure that must include the following:
Connections have been talked about extensively in class.
It is also expected that all components be written in paragraph form.
- Title, Author
- About- brief overview of what the book is about
- Rating- out of a possible 5 starts and why they gave it that rating.
- Connection to self
- Connection to another Text- decided together that it could also include a connection to a movie, tv show or other type of media.
- Connection to world
- A Cover Design or Illustration

There is also an expectation that students will give a brief (2-5 min) book talk. Mrs. Davidson, the literacy mentor, modeled 6 to 8 book talks for us. There is no need to memorize nor read from their projects. Simply why they liked the book, what their book is about (briefly) and a chosen passage to be read by me or themselves that they have pre-selected.
